Mission Statement
Tornillo Elementary administrators, faculty and support staff will provide quality instruction to
improve academic skills, develop students’ self-esteem, increase parental involvement and
maintain high expectations in a positive school climate for all students. As students leave
Tornillo Elementary School they will be in the process of developing the following:
- Self-esteem as a learner and person.
- Cognitive levels: problem solving, communication, decision making, accountability, and group process.
- Skills as self-directed learners.
- Concern for others.
We believe that all students can learn; therefore, the primary purpose of our school is teaching
and learning. Research has shown that those closest to the needs of the students are more
qualified to make decisions which will affect their teaching and learning. We, therefore adopt the
Site-Based Decision Making Process mode at Tornillo Elementary School. This is an ongoing
process of planning that addresses educational goals, values, and incorporates:
- CLEAR AND SPECIFIC SCHOOL FOCUS
- STRONG EDUCATION LEADERSHIP
- HIGH EXPECTATIONS
- SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
- POSITIVE CLIMATE FOR LEARNING
- MONITORING OF STUDENT PROGRESS
